Healthcare Solutions |
| Founded in 2001, Calvert
Healthcare Solutions (CHS) brings together local physicians, the
Calvert County Department of Social Services (DSS), the Health
Department, and Calvert Memorial Hospital (CMH) to form an organization
providing primary health care to uninsured Calvert County adults. |
| Services provided include
private medical office visits, basic x-ray and laboratory tests and help
with the cost of generic medications.
CHS offers low-cost primary health care
(participants pay $15 for office visits) and generic drugs at a
discount. Medical services are provided by local doctors and
prescription discounts are available through local pharmacies including
Safeway, Giant, and Walgreens Pharmacy.
As of January, 2010, CHS is negotiating
specialty care rates with local providers to cover diagnostic procedures
for the heart and lungs, as well as other in-office procedures.

Solutions' Clients |

CHS clients are Calvert County residents ages 19-64
who, even though they may be working full time, cannot afford the ever
rising cost of healthcare. While the children of these families
may be covered by the
Maryland Children's Health Insurance Program, there is no comprehensive
government health insurance program for those citizens whose income
makes purchasing health insurance an unaffordable luxury.
Developing a relationship with a primary physician and taking steps to
help prevent severe illness are vital to living a healthy life for all
people, not just for those who can afford it. The
program currently assists many residents of the county and has served
over 1,300
residents since its inception. However, recent census data
indicates that there may remain over 1,300 more residents in Calvert Count
who qualify for our program.

Solutions Funded? |
| Calvert Healthcare Solutions
(CHS) is primarily funded through private donations, fundraising events
and grants.
|
| Fundraising events include:
Liquid Jazz, an entertaining day of wine
tasting with smooth jazz accompaniment
held annually for the past several years.
|
| The "Keep Your Colon Rollin' 5K" Walk/Run
sponsored by the Calvert County Health Department in order to raise
funds for CHS and raise awareness for one of the most deadly cancers in
the nation.
Individual assistance is greatly
appreciated either through monetary donation, attendance of fundraising
events, or volunteering of time. Those individuals who wish to
contribute through making a monetary donation may do so via mail to the address listed below. |

CHS expands its community outreach
efforts during Cover the Uninsured Week and continues to increase
awareness through local churches and other community service
organizations.
