| About Calvert
Healthcare Solutions |
| Founded in 2001, Calvert
Healthcare Solutions (CHCS) brings together local physicians, the
Calvert County Department of Social Services (DSS), the Health
Department, and Calvert Memorial Hospital (CMH) to form an organization
providing primary health care to uninsured Calvert County adults. |
| Services provided include
private medical office visits, basic x-ray and laboratory tests and help
with the cost of generic medications.
CHCS offers low-cost primary health care
(participants pay $15 for office visits) and generic drugs at a
discount. Medical services are provided by local doctors and
prescription discounts are available through local pharmacies including
Safeway, Giant, and Walgreens Pharmacy.
|
| Who are Calvert Healthcare
Solutions' Clients |
|
CHCS clients are working adults ages 19-64
who, even though they are working full time, cannot afford the ever
rising cost of healthcare. While the children of these families are covered by the
Maryland Children's Health Insurance Program, there is no comprehensive
government health insurance program for those citizens whose income
makes purchasing health insurance an unaffordable luxury.
Developing a relationship with a primary physician and taking steps to
help prevent severe illness are vital to living a healthy life for all
people, not just for those who can afford it. The
program currently assists many residents of the county and has served
over 1,100
residents since its inception. However, recent census data
indicates that there may remain over 1,100 more residents in Calvert Count
who qualify for our program. It is our mission to reach out and
help every person who needs it.

| How is Calvert Healthcare
Solutions Funded? |
| Calvert Healthcare Solutions
(CHCS) is primarily funded through private donations and fundraising events.
Start up funding and volunteers were provided by the Calvert County Kiwanis Club.
|
| Fundraising events include:
Liquid Jazz, an entertaining evening of smooth jazz with wine tasting accompaniment
held annually for the past several years.
|
| In the fall of 2006 and 2007, Oktoberfest celebrated past efforts and future direction of the organization while raising business community
awareness and money to sustain the program.
The Keep Your Colon Rollin' 5K Walk/Run
sponsored by the Calvert County Health Department in order to raise
funds for CHCS and raise awareness for one of the most deadly cancers in
the nation.
Individual assistance is greatly
appreciated either through monetary donation, attendance of fundraising
events, or volunteering of time. Those individuals who wish to
contribute through making a monetary donation may do so via mail to the
Treasurer at the address listed below. |
|
CHCS expanded its community outreach
efforts during Cover the Uninsured Week and continues to expand
awareness through local churches and other community service
organizations.
